Sailing the world wasn’t something Ian and Jackie originally imagined for themselves, but after falling in love with catamaran life in the Whitsundays, they began their search for the perfect liveaboard. “We really liked the Lagoon range, they had a great reputation and we were attracted by the sheer volume of Lagoons already in the water. We didn’t want a bespoke racing boat with little room, little support and no established community in place. After taking delivery in France, our Lagoon 450S quickly proved itself offshore giving us comfort and confidence every where we go.”

Sailing the World on a Lagoon Catamaran – Lars
From France to Denmark, then around the world with his wife starting at age 69, Lars sailed over 50,000 nautical miles in the Lagoon 380. “I knew that more than 450 Lagoon 380s had been built, many were in charter, so this was a mature design. I know the works of VLVP, so we bought the 380 without having seen or sailed it! The boat has proved itself in every way, crossing oceans, winning both legs of the ARC Rally, and cruising through the Caribbean, Pacific, Southeast Asia, and the Mediterranean. A Lagoon 380 will go well to windward in more than 12 knots of wind if you have folding props and good sails that do not stretch. You can buy any well-prepared Lagoon and sail around the world. Don’t hesitate to do it yourself, even if you are old, any Lagoon can do it.”

Liveaboard Lagoon Catamaran Owner Review Australia – Matt and Lanaia
Matt and Lanaia Donkin own a 40ft Lagoon, Espresso and liveaboard in Australia. When asked what they love about their Lagoon Matt said, “We had a monohull before we bought our cat… there’s the stability, livability, room and ability to entertain and despite having a reputation for not being a brilliant sailor most Lagoons get along really well and I think we surprise a lot of people we sail with. I think we pleasantly surprise people with how well our Lagoon gets along. So you’ve got that great mix of comfort and performance, it’s quite good in its way. We love our Lagoon for both those things.”
Lanaia added, “Living onboard our Lagoon, it has some amazing space… the stability… I think it’s just provided us with a home, to be able to do what we are doing. This lifestyle is a very different lifestyle to what most people live, so it provides us with that amazing home away from a normal home. We have been very lucky to have this experience and to enjoy it and to enjoy the East Coast of Australia and the amazing people and sights that are here.”

For Anthony and Seryn Ryan, the Lagoon 630 has become more than a boat – it’s a luxurious floating home built for entertaining and everyday comfort.
“It’s very very easy, so much space, we just had 4 couples for 5 days, it was very chilled out and relaxed.
The flybridge is such a big beautiful place with a view, its elevated and we put permanent clears around ours so you can use it anytime, day or night, windy or raining, it doesn’t matter. You can sit up there have lunch, have dinner. We call it the first class lounge, you can’t go wrong.”

Why the Lagoon 42 Ticked Every Box for My Dream Voyage – Paul
For Paul Brown, choosing the Lagoon 42 was a natural next step in his sailing journey, sparked by earlier chartering experiences and trusted recommendations.
“I chartered a Lagoon 450 in Croatia… I had a fantastic couple of weeks on that and that’s probably where it all started from. I met a fellow that had a Lagoon 450 and followed his 5-year journey through the Med and the Caribbean. All the reports gave me the confidence to want to go into Lagoon. There were only a couple of real choices when I was looking, and Lagoon always came up as the one that ticked all the boxes. Very happy for sure.”

From Tough Conditions to Quiet Anchorages – This 40ft Lagoon Catamaran Handles It All – Matt
For Matt Doncan and his family, life onboard their 40ft Lagoon is about freedom, adventure, and the confidence that comes with a capable cruising catamaran. From challenging offshore conditions to peaceful anchorages, their Lagoon has been a constant companion in unforgettable experiences along Australia’s east coast.
“We love our Lagoon, we’ve been out in some pretty tough conditions and it’s always brought us home safe, it’s fantastic under sail and great at anchor so we absolutely love our boat.
Our favourite thing about our boat is the places it can take us, we get to see a lot of the east coast that most people can only imagine to see and to be able to access it with a boat it’s just fantastic.”

It’s about the journey not the destination: Life on a Lagoon 52 – Jeff
For Jeff D’Albora, the Lagoon 52 isn’t just a boat, it’s a vessel that enhances the entire journey. From the elevated helm position to the open-air freedom of the flybridge, Jeff shares why sailing Infinity II is about more than just reaching the destination, it’s about enjoying every moment along the way.
“There is more enjoyment in a sailboat in that the enjoyment is in the journey as much as it’s in the destination. That to me makes it a totally different experience. The advantage of a flybridge to me is the fact you are that much higher off the surface of the water, you can get better vision all around, a greater sense of being on-top of the whole thing and I do enjoy being out in the sun most of the time.”

Living the dream single handed onboard 50ft Lagoon – Mark
After selling his business, Mark Rolle set out to turn his dream of life at sea into reality. His Lagoon 500, Three Little Birds, became his full-time home, carrying him across Australia and the Pacific.
“When I first saw the Lagoon 500, I thought, ‘Wow, that’s a lot of boat.’ But it ticked all the boxes – liveaboard comfort, manageable for one person, and good performance. It’s the perfect way to isolate. I’ve spent nearly every night onboard in the last four years. Deploying the spinnaker is easy. I’ve led all the rigging back to the cockpit, and I’ve got a trip line if I need to depower instantly. It’s seriously changed my sailing experience for the better. I wanted a floating home, and Lagoon delivered.”

An inspiring story by Lagoon 380 owner – Theo
Theo Kuiters shares his incredible adventures onboard his Lagoon 380 and how he made owning his dream boat a reality.
“After looking all over Australia for 6 years, I even flew to Barcelona for a test sail. I was looking at the 440 but went smaller for single handed. Cats Paw was the 540th 380 built and the most bulletproof catamaran made to withstand the charter market. It is the type of boat that even none sailors can sail because it is super forgiving for people that make mistakes. The rigging is so strong, it honestly was the perfect first boat. These boats are built with so much reserve safety, even inexperienced sailors can sail without doing themselves a misery. Cats Paw once went up against a serious Caribbean storm travelling at 22kts with no sails up, seeking refuge in Columbia.”
Adding, “You can do anything you want in life as long as you help other people get what they want”.

Why life is better lived on a Lagoon – Greg and Sue
Greg and Sue Harding are proud owners of a Lagoon 440 and lifelong sailors who have embraced the Lagoon lifestyle wholeheartedly.
“Our love affair with Lagoon started from day one. We always had in the back of our mind that someday we would own a catamaran. We knew the outstanding reputation of the Lagoon brand and the model we wanted… we just couldn’t afford to say no to a Lagoon!
The Lagoon is so safe… Sue’s 77 year old mum spent five weeks cruising with us. She didn’t want to go home! With a Lagoon, you can escape the modern world. This a lifestyle that takes away the stresses of the modern age. You can be as independent or as social as you want.”
